The Conservatives Celebrate Northern Ireland 100 years on… Is it a weak last cry of a dying post Brexit Union?

Today the Conservative government posted on social media a celebration of Northern Ireland being 100 years old. Is this in good tase?

Northern Ireland resulting from years of British occupation and rule of the Irish people; atrocities, uprising, war and so much innocent blood being spilt. Since its creation Northern Ireland hasn’t seen peace either, other than a fragile one following the good Friday Agreement. A peace now shattered by Brexit and an Irish Sea border.

For the first time in the 100 year history of Northern Ireland the unionist party are no longer in the majority. Is a united Ireland referrendum in the not so far future?

But why, given the above, do the Conservative party think it appropriate to celebrate the actions of the British Government in the creation of a province that has been the cause of and seen so much violence and bloodshed.

Following Brexit, the Conservative party have also sought to use the Union Flag to promote being British, perhaps in a desperate attempt to bring the Union together, to celebrate the regaining of its sovereignty from the EU. For many the Union Flag causes offence, I was taught it was a Butchers Apron and represented oppression and occupation.

Is Brexit the end of the Union, will its only success be a United Ireland and a Scottish independence… what will Wales do next?
